Academic Specialist, HCZ Promise Academy After-School
HCZ Promise Academy After-School is seeking an Academic Specialist to engage our intervention students who are assessed and identified as high risk. They conduct one-on-one and small group pull outs and push in during after school hours, and track student performance. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for the mission of Promise Academy and HCZ, an understanding and respect for the culture of all residents of Harlem, and experience working in a school setting with a love for children.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate specific structured one-on-one instruction with remedial students in after-school program
- Execute tailored IEPs that address individual student academic challenges, providing solutions on how to mitigate those challenges
- Help diagnose academic strengths and weaknesses, and match these skills with appropriate techniques and materials
- Work with Promise Academy day school teaching staff regarding progress of IEP students
- Effectively engage students and promote interest in all academic subjects
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification, Skills and Knowledge Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years teaching experience; Master’s degree preferred
- Must be a certified New York State Teacher
- Experience working with IEP students
- Ability to offer motivation and encourage self-esteem in youth
- Must have strong leadership and excellent communication skills
