A study by Harvard economist Roland Fryer of HCZ's Promise Academy charter school was given a thumbs up by the "famously tough reviewers" at the U.S. Department of Education's What Works Clearinghouse, as reported by Education Week. Dr. Fryer, comparing students who won the admission lottery with those who did not win, found that the Promise Academy middle school students had closed the black-white achievement gap in math and significantly narrowing it in English.
